  1. The preparation of Jesus, the Son of Man (chapters 1-2).
    1. The deity of Jesus Christ (1:1-2), and His pre-incarnation work as the eternal Word (1:3-13).
    2. The incarnation of Jesus, the glory of the Word (1:9-14).
    3. Testimony of John the Baptist, Christ’s forerunner, who made straight the way of the Lord (1:15-34).
      1. John the Baptist baptized Jesus (1:29-34).
      2. Jesus honored baptism and was Himself marvelously honored (1:29-34).

  2. The beginnings of Jesus’ public ministry.
    1. Jesus calls Andrew, Simon, Philip, and Nathanael to be His disciples and forms a called-out body of believers called His assembly (church) (1:35-51).   They had been baptized disciples of John the Baptist (Acts 1:22).   Jesus was the Pastor of this first church (John 10:11,14) made up of the Apostles (I Corinthians 12:28).
    2. The early Galilean Ministry of Jesus: the wedding at Cana (2:1-12).

  3. Ministry in Judea (3:1-5:27).
    1. Christ and Nicodemus (3:1-21).
    2. Confession and testimony of John the Baptist (3:22-36).
    3. Jesus and the Samaritan woman; healing the nobleman’s son (4:1-54).
    4. The impotent man healed and critical Jews answered (5:1-47).

  4. Jesus fed 5000, walked on the water, presented the sermon on the bread of life, and withdrew across the lake to rest (chapter 6).

  5. The ministry of Jesus in Jerusalem (chapters 7-11).
    1. The message of Jesus concerning the Holy Spirit and Feast of Tabernacles (chapter 7).
    2. The woman taken in adultery; Jesus is the light of the world (chapter 8).
    3. The man born blind is healed (chapter 9).
    4. The discourse about the Good Shepherd (chapter 10).
    5. The raising of Lazarus from the tomb; the conspiracy to kill Jesus (chapter 11).

  6. The Last Days (chapters 12-21).
    1. Supper at Bethany, Jesus’ message concerning the corn of wheat chapter (chapter 12).
    2. Jesus washes the disciples’ feet, describes His betrayal and denial by Peter (chapter 13).
    3. Jesus foretells of future blessings for the faithful (chapter 14).
    4. Christ the vine, Christians the branches, the disciples and Christ, the disciples and the world, disciples and the Spirit (chapters 15-16).
    5. The prayer of Jesus for His own, the Lord’s prayer (chapter 17).

  7. Death and resurrection of Jesus (18-20).
    1. Jesus’ agony and arrest in the garden of Gethsemane (18:1-11).
    2. Jesus’ trials (18:28-19:15).
    3. Jesus crucified (19:16-37).
      1. Jesus’ burial (19:38-42).
    4. The resurrection of King Jesus (chapters 20-21).
      1. Christ’s great resurrection day was Sunday, the first day of the week (chapter 20).
        1. The resurrection of Christ demonstrated with power that Jesus was all that He claimed to be:   Romans 1:2-4 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) 3 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; 4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection of the dead.
        2. This resurrection day was the end of the Old Testament Sabbaths which symbolized the end of the Mosaic dispensation.   Our Lord and King, Jesus Christ, was in the grave on the Old Testament Sabbath.
      2. Ascension of Christ (chapter 21).

  8. Honor Christ!   To honor Christ, we must honor the church as an institution which Jesus continues to build.   Christ means for all of His people to do all of His in all of the centuries through all of the world (Hebrews 10:25)!
